As Director Strategic Partnerships at International Justice Mission Netherlands, Peter Douwes works closely with his fundraising team to drive sustainable revenue growth - with a clear focus on funding partners: from major donors and high-net-worth families to businesses, foundations, and institutional funders.
His mandate is clear: to help triple revenue and expand IJM’s global impact. “For me, it’s not just about growing numbers - it’s about growing meaning and impact. Every partner helps make justice tangible for people who otherwise have no access to it and urgently need our support. Until all are free - that’s what drives us, and me personally, every single day.”
Peter operates at the intersection of strategy and relationships: “I’m passionate about building bridges between people, organizations, and our mission - ending modern slavery and violence. With every partner, I look for long-term collaboration built on trust and shared value. Because real change requires persistence, consistency, and a long-term commitment.”
He began his career in the private sector and later moved into public-private partnerships and the nonprofit sector, including leadership roles as CEO of Make-A-Wish Netherlands and the Oranje Fonds. “I’ve learned that real impact happens when strategy, execution, and people’s commitment come together - that’s when momentum builds and resources align toward meaningful progress.”
For Peter, IJM stands out because it works where the need is greatest: “This is fundamental work - for people living under the pressure of poverty, exploitation, and violence. It’s about rescue, justice, and protecting millions. It’s made possible by the courage, determination, and perseverance of our teams on the ground - our colleagues working in regions where justice systems are still developing. And it equally depends on the vital support and genuine engagement of people here who choose to step in and take action with us.”
“Wherever you are in your journey - you can be part of this movement, in a way that fits your capacity and ambition. It’s the combined power of many that creates real change.
If you are an entrepreneur, executive, leader, or engaged professional and want to use your financial resources, network, or influence for lasting impact, I would truly welcome a personal conversation.”
